ICRC chairman praises Kuwait's relief efforts

KUWAIT, June 3 (KUNA) -- President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer on Wednesday praised Kuwait's generous financial support and its humanitarian action in the region particularly in Syria, and reaffirmed the ICRC's commitment to neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian action.
Maurer said in statement after a meeting with president of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with his expertise and wise leadership, has made Kuwait a leading and proactive country for supporting the poor and needy.
Maurer thanked His Highness the Amir and the government of Kuwait for their political, diplomatic, moral and financial support for the ICRC's humanitarian task.
"We need a collective will and commitment of the international community in order to face these challenges and to respond to the humanitarian needs of the victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence worldwide," Maurer added.
For his part, Dr. Al-Sayer affirmed keenness to work and coordinate with humanitarian organizations, especially with the Saudi Red Crescent Society and King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works to deliver various forms of assistance needed to the Yemeni people, struggling to survive under exceptional circumstances of the war.
Both sides, during their meeting, reviewed the existing cooperation means to strengthen the strategic partnership between them. (end) ako.nb.ss
