FIFA chief Sepp Blatter resigns

GENEVA, June 2 (KUNA) -- Four days after being re-elected for a fifth four-year term, the President of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Sepp Blatter stepped down on Tuesday.
In a press statement Blatter, 78, announced his resignation of the international football's governing body and thanked all who supported him throughout his 17 years in office. He added that he will continue to do his tasks until a new president is elected.
Last week, US department of justice charged 18 people, including 13 FIFA executives, in a 47-count indictment alleging racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering offenses. (end) ta.mb
