NEW YORK, May 30 (KUNA) -- A UN General Assembly event marking the 20th anniversary of the World Programme of Action for Youth earlier concluded in the presence of Kuwait's Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah.
Following the talks, Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi praised the minister's attendance, describing it as "outstanding and effective." Speaking to KUNA, the envoy expressed Kuwait and other Arab states' keenness to create a partnership with the UN aimed at developing and enhancing youth potentials as was earlier mentioned by the minister.
He went on to underline the need for this development and support between the UN and the Arab members, in general, and Kuwait, in specific, to face numerous youth challenges, most importantly unemployment.
The Kuwaiti minister is expected to meet the UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Monday to discuss matters pertaining to relations between the two, along with Arab youth affairs - as Kuwait currently heads the Arab Ministers' Council for Youth and Sports.
After Kuwait contributed USD 1.5 million to the Office of the UN Secretary General's Envoy on Youth, the envoy said this was praised by Acting General Assembly President Alvaro Jose de Mendonca e Moura. (end) mao.sd
