Qatar to re-open its embassy in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, May 29 (KUNA) -- Iraq and Qatar agreed that the latter re-opens its embassy in Baghdad, Iraq's Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said on Friday.
In a joint conference with Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Attiah, al-Jaafari said: "We have agreed to have Qatar re-open its embassy in Baghdad to begin resuming diplomatic work." Al-Jaafari added that Iraq seeks to bolster its relations with Qatar, lauding Doha's support for Baghdad in its war on terror.
Al-Attiyah said: "We discussed means of promoting bilateral relations and the resumption of activities of the Qatari embassy in Iraq." He affirmed his country's keenness on Iraq's unity, urging it to resort to reconciliation to prevent infighting. Tensions between the Gulf states and Iraq have eased since Prime Minister Haider Abadi took office last year. (end) mhg.nbs.hm
