NEW YORK, May 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah said Thursday the youth constitute a central issue for world and continue to be in the limelight of government action.
"The Kuwaiti government, under patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, offers due care for the youth," he said in statements to KUNA and Kuwait TV.
He made the comments following his meeting with United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi at the Hq. of the Kuwaiti mission to the UN here.
"The fruitful meeting provided an opportunity for sharing views with Alhendawi on the partnership between Kuwait and the UN for supporting the objectives of the World Program of Action for Youth (WPAY)," Sheikh Salman revealed.
The talks also dealt with the National Youth Project, dubbed 'Kuwait Hears' which represents an exemplary initiative for meeting the aspirations of youths, he said, calling on the civil society institutions to contribute to the project.
The minister noted that youths in the Arab region suffered from the economic and security turmoil in the last decade, calling on the Arab League and the Arab group of states at the UN to bring this issue to the fore and shoulder their responsibility for addressing the problems of youths.
Sheikh Salman, who leads a delegation to a senior-level meeting by the UN General Assembly tomorrow, said he plans to convey to the UN the aspirations of the Arab youths, particularly those of Kuwait and the GCC countries.
On his part, Alhendawi welcomed, in statements to KUNA, Sheikh Salman's participation in the UNGA meeting.
Sheikh Salman will be a key speaker at the meeting in recognition of Kuwait's leading role in supporting youth on the national and regional scales, he said, noting that the Kuwaiti minister is the current chairman of the Arab youth and sports council.
Alhendawi expressed hope for deepening the UN-Kuwaiti partnership for youth.
The meeting between Sheikh Salman and Alhendawi gathered also Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, Chairman and Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sport (PAYS) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and Undersecretary of the State Ministry for Youth Affairs Sheikh Al-Zain Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, as well as other senior officials.
