GENEVA, May 28 (KUNA) -- Visiting Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Anwar Al-Hasawi on Thursday called for helping humanitarian organizations in securing relief assistance to people in war-stricken Yemen.
"Philanthropic organizations have to step up their efforts to address the tragic situation in Yemen, and seek to relieve and provide medical and food aid to the brothers there," Al-Hasawi told KUNA on sidelines of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (ICRC) meeting for Yemen, currently held here.
"Providing urgent humanitarian assistance to the Yemeni people is a priority to the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society," he said, indicating that the society had delivered 40 tons of medicines and medical supplies to hospitals in Mukalla, Yemen, during the past few days.
Moreover, there has been coordination with the Saudi Red Crescent Society and King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works to deliver various forms of assistance needed to the Yemeni people, struggling to survive under exceptional circumstances of the war, Al-Hasawi said.
Kuwait; led by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has "achieved the global status," being proclaimed as a "Humanitarian Center," due to its generous humanitarian contributions and campaigns worldwide. (end) ta.ss
