Final deal with Iran must guarantee unrestricted inspections - French FM

PARIS, May 27 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius affirmed Wednesday that his country would not accept any final agreement with Iran on the latter's nuclear program unless such deal ensures full access to Iranian military sites for inspection.
As a member of the P5+1 group, France will not sign any comprehensive deal if it does not provide clearly that inspections can be done at all Iranian installations, including the military sites, Fabius said in a speech to the National Assembly.
He urged the other members of the group to follow suit and adopt tough stance in the ongoing negotiations with Iran in order to make sure that Iran would not acquire nuclear weapons.
Fabius was apparently responding to the comments made a week ago by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei that his country would not give the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors access to its military sites or nuclear scientists.
The IAEA had specified 12 sites of sensitive nuclear activities, including the Parchin Military Complex, located about 20 km. southeast Tehran.
Earlier today, Yukiya Amano, director general of the UN nuclear watchdog, said he would ask Tehran to subject its military sites to inspections when need be.
When the IAEA inspectors find contradiction in information or have suspicions, the Agency can demand reaching any military site that was not slated for inspection before, Amano, now on a visit to Paris told the French daily Le Monde. (end) amm.gb
