Iraq, Syria risk partition - French FM

PARIS, May 27 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius warned against partition of Iraq and Syria unless the international community urgently act against ISIL, which was controlling large swathes of lands in both countries.
The international coalition fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant should be strengthened, Fabius said in a speech before the National Assembly, or one of the countries of two of them would face the risk of partition thus leading "further massacres." He criticized the Iraqi government for failing to be inclusive and consisting of all segments of the Iraqi society.
"The Iraqi government did not respect its obligations before its partners in this side," he said.
On Syria, Fabius said Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has lost control on most of the country.
France hosts an international meeting on June 2 to discuss the coalition strategy against ISIL. (end) amm.bs
