NEW YORK, May 26 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait and the Republic of Palau have inked an agreement for launching diplomatic relations and boosting bilateral cooperation in various domains.
Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mansour Al-Otaibi and his Palauan counterpart Caleb Otto signed the pact Tuesday at the Kuwaiti mission in New York.
It stipulates the desire of the two states to have diplomatic relations and to develop political, economic and cultural ties between the two nations.
The move comes in line with Kuwait's foreign policy approach of having diplomatic relations with all countries around the world, Ambassador Al-Otaibi told KUNA.
He added that Kuwait and Palau are members in the Forum of Small States.
Al-Otaibi noted that Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development have financed several development projects in Palau.
For his part, Palauan Ambassador Otto expressed pleasure for signing the agreement.
He underlined that his country is looking forwards to having strong relations with Kuwait.
Palau is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, some 500 miles (800 km) east of the Philippines and 2,000 miles (3,200 km) south of Tokyo. (end) mao.ibi
