Turkish parliamentary candidate shot, wounded

ANKARA, May 26 (KUNA) -- Republican People's Party's MP candidate Elif Dogan Turkmen was shot and wounded in an armed attack in southern province of Adana on Tuesday.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, the Governor of Adana Mustafa Buyuk said the 53-year old Turkmen was on her way to a breakfast event in the Cukurova district when she was shot. "Elif Dogan Turkmen was shot in the knees, but her life is not at risk," said the governor.
"The armed attack on the CHP candidate Turkmen was not political, but rather was the result of a lawyer-client dispute," Governor of Adana Mustafa Buyuk said. A man named "Ali Fuat E." is a suspect in the attack, the governor said.
The governor also said that the rental car used for the armed attack has been found abandoned.
This is the second time Adana has witnessed an attack on parliamentary candidates in four days. On May 23, ruling AK Party's MP candidate Ramazan Demir was also injured in a knife attack by two drunken attackers.
About 56 million Turks will vote in the country's 25th general election to elect 550 lawmakers to the Turkish Grand National Assembly on June 7. (end) rs.rk
