WASHINGTON, May 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait joined the US Monday in celebrating the country's Memorial Day, which marked past wars including the 1991 war of liberation of Kuwait.
Kuwait took part in the annual rally marking the Memorial Day in Washington D.C., an event covered live by TV channels across the nation, to express gratitude for the US for leading an international coalition in the "Desert Strom" that liberated Kuwait from the Iraqi occupation.
The Embassy of Kuwait and Ambassador Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Sabah are keen on participation in this annual event, which remembers victims of wars fought by the US as well as veterans who fought in the Desert Storm, Major-General Marzouq Al-Bader, head of Kuwait's Military Office in Washington, said in a statement to KUNA.
"Kuwait wants to send a message to the American people that it will not forget its contributions to the liberation of Kuwait," said Al-Bader.
Veterans of the World War One led the rally, which also featured live music and people carrying photos of victims of wars, buried in the Arlington Cemetery.
Hessa Al-Hazza, head of Americas Media in Kuwait's Information Ministry, said Kuwait has always participated in the Memorial Day rally in appreciation of the US role in the liberation of Kuwait.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Hazza said Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah, and Information Undersecretary Tareq Al-Mezrem, were keen on joining the US to mark the Memorial Day. (end) yt.bs
