Syrian regime warplanes stage intensive strikes on Palmyra

AMMAN, May 25 (KUNA) -- Syrian regime warplanes have intensified raids on the ancient town Palmyra that has recently fallen into the hands of ISIL's militants, an opposition monitor said on Monday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the military aircraft staged 14 strikes on locations around the town's hospital, a military base and other military strongholds in the town.
ISIL, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, took control of the historic town on May 21.
The monitor reported fighting between the regime forces and Islamic gunmen around Umm Sharshouh village in Homs' countryside.
It also reported that the ISIL "executed" some 600 prisoners. In Latakia on the northern coast, two blasts echoed across the city earlier today. (end) tk.rk
