Renovated Salalah Airport to open in June

SALALAH, May 25 (KUNA) -- The renovated Salalah Airport will resume operations by end of June coinciding with onsent of the fall tourism season, a ranking official said on Monday.
The official of the Ministry of Transport and Communication told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the expanded airport would open as part of preparations for hosting visitors for Salalah Autumn Season, due to begin on June 21.
Various facilities at the airport have been test-operated in preparation for the event.
The 300 million Omani rial airport features international specifications and standards, said the official, affirming that the airport inauguration would be part of a comprehensive strategy to develop Salalah as a tourist destination.
Salalah, located 1,000 kms from Muscat, is distinguished with moderate weather. It mainly attracts tourists from Gulf and Arab countries.
The new airport terminal will be about 65,000 square meters. Its capacity will be expanded to accommodate one million passengers annually.
