Kuwait Blood Bank to mark 50th anniv next Thur.

KUWAIT, May 24 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Central Blood Bank will mark its 50th anniversary on Thursday in a ceremony to honor supportive bodies and donors.
The Bank will launch intensive campaigns on social media networks to raise public awareness about donation and increase reserve of blood ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, director of department of blood transfusion at the Ministry of Health Dr. Reem Alآ­Radhwan told KUNA on Sunday.
The Bank provides better services for patients in terms of availability of safe blood, she said, noting that it also cares for donors and follows up on their conditions during and after donation.
She noted the Bank contributes highly in treating diseases like leukemia and thalassemia and provides blood to some neighboring countries if necessary.
The Bank launches routine media awareness campaigns on the benefits of donation at universities, schools, shopping malls and private institutions, she said, noting the donor should be above 18 years old, weighs 50 kilograms and free of any diseases.
The Bank highly appreciates the role of donors in saving lives of many people, so it is keen on honoring donors every year, Al-Radhwan pointed out.
The Bank was established in 1965 and expanded in 1970. Located in Alآ­Jaberia area, the Bank was inaugurated on April 4, 1987 and designed according to the latest international standards. (end) shh.hb.hm
