20 airstrikes hit ISIL targets in Syria, Iraq - US

WASHINGTON, May 22 (KUNA) -- US-led coalition continued to strike ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq, with a total of 20 airstrikes conducted in past 24 hours, the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a statement Friday.
"Daesh continues harassing attacks against the Peshmerga near Sinjar," said CJTF-OIR Chief of Public Affairs Wayne Marotto in the statement, referring to ISIL in its Arabic acronym.
The Kurdish special forces, "enabled by the Coalition, repeatedly repel these attacks," said Marotto.
In Syria five airstrikes were carried out near three areas: Al Hasakah, destroying an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL VBIED; Deir Ezzor, striking two ISIL wellheads, and Ain Al-Arab (Kobane), destroying an ISIL fighting positon.
In Iraq 10 airstrikes were carried out near five areas: Al Asad, two destroying five ISIL buildings; Haditha, one striking an ISIL staging areas, and Mosul, destroying an ISIL tactical unit, destroying two ISIL tunnel systems, an ISIL motorcycle, an ISIL vehicle and an ISIL cache.
Near Ramadi, five airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, destroying five ISIL armored vehicles, two ISIL tanks, two ISIL vehicles, an ISIL armored personnel carrier, three ISIL IEDs, five abandoned tanks, two abandoned armored personnel carriers and two abandoned armored vehicles.
The coalition carried out three airstrikes near Sinjar against three ISIL tactical units, destroying four ISIL buildings, two ISIL heavy machine guns and an ISIL mortar system. (end) ak.bs
