NEW YORK, May 22 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned today in the strongest terms the "terrorist" attack that targeted a mosque in the town of Al-Qediah in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Ban stressed in a statement that such attacks on places of worship are "abhorrent and intended to promote sectarian conflict." He hoped that the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.
The Secretary General extended his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and expressed his sympathies to the Government and people of Saudi Arabia.
A suicide bomber blew up his explosive belt at Imam Ali Mosque, and resulted in the death and injury of many as people were gathering for Friday prayers. (end) mao.bs
