AMMAN, May 20 (KUNA) -- The board of trustees of the Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia (RCSSTE-WA), an affiliate of the United Nations, elected Kuwait to the post of deputy chair of the board.
During their second meeting here on Wednesday, the Amman-based board elected Kuwait, Lebanon and Oman as vice chairmen of the board, said Deputy Director General of Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for Air Navigation Services Affairs Khalid Mubarak Al-Shuaibi.
"Director General of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre (RJGC) Brig.-Gen. Dr. Eng Awni Kasawneh was reelected uncontested as chairman of the RCSSTE-WA board," Al-Shuaibi told KUNA here.
Al-Shuaibi welcomed Kuwait's election as indicative of the trust of the center in the country's ability to contribute to the advancement of space science and technology in the region "As a constituent member of the RCSSTE-WA which was founded three years ago, Kuwait shoulders a responsibility for serving the Western Asian countries in terms of space science and technology education," pointed out.
On the DGCA future projects, he said the air navigation sector plans to utilize satellite communications for air and marine navigation services in order to facilitate information sharing and modernize their services.
Today's meeting of the RCSSTE-WA board of trustees gathered representatives of Kuwait, Jordan, Tunisia, Oman, Iraq, Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen and the United Nations, he added. (end) hmf.gb
