KUWAIT, May 20 (KUNA) -- It is imperative to form a pan-Arab front to combat extremist terrorist thinking currently pervasive in the region, said a Kuwaiti minister on Wednesday.
Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah made that statement to KUNA prior to leaving for Egypt to attend the 46th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, which starts tomorrow.
He said the ministers in their meeting will discuss the role the media can play in facing up to the dangers of propaganda spewed forth by terrorist organizations in the region.
The ministers will also review cooperation among Arab states' media organs to enhance the work of journalism in the region, he said.
Moreover, the ministers of information will consider allocating a special day to celebrate Arab media every year, he said, adding that they will also discuss electronic media and its effect on society, especially the role of the social media in disseminating information.
Fundamentally, tomorrow's ministerial meeting will focus on the role of Arab media in propagating values of tolerance and amity among all peoples of the earth and means of effectively fighting extremism in creed and deed. (end) mdm.ajs
