RIYADH, May 20 (KUNA) -- The first Kuwaiti shipment of relief aid has been delivered to the Yemeni people, said a Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) official on Wednesday.
The shipment consists of 40 tons of medical supplies, said Khaled Al-Mutairi, in charge of emergency and disaster relief aid at KRCS, in a phone call to KUNA from the town of Shurora in south of Saudi Arabia.
This aid to the Yemeni people comes in response to the UN appeal from the start of the crisis in Yemen to extend help to the Yemeni people who are suffering from the lack of medicine and medical equipment, among other things, said Al-Mutairi.
More Kuwaiti shipments of relief aid are in the pipeline for the Yemeni people, he said as he thanked Saudi relief aid authorities for facilitating the delivery of KRCS aid to Yemen.
The KRCS began as early as last April to collect donations locally in Kuwait for the support of the Yemeni people who currently lack food and medicine, among other things. (end) yms.ajs
