Kuwait undertakes repairs to 2 schools in Jordan

AMMAN, May 20 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has donated 20,000 Jordanian Dinars (or USD 28,000) for maintenance work on two schools here where Syrian refugee children receive their education, a KRCS official told KUNA on Wednesday.
The maintenance will be done by both KRCS and its Jordanian counterpart, said KRCS mission chief to Jordan Khaled Al-Zaid. He said the two schools suffered from over-crowdedness due to increasing numbers of incoming Syrian refugee children.
Already the two schools have been receiving students in two shifts, the morning shift for Jordanian students and the evening for Syrian ones, said Al-Zaid, noting that the maintenance work would expand the capacity of the schools and upgrade their facilities.
There are plans to refurbish seven more schools to accommodate more Syrian refugee students, he said, underscoring Kuwait's continuous help to Jordan to absorb the influx of Syrian refugees.
Thanking Kuwait, both government and people for their generosity in helping alleviate the burden of Syrian refugees in Jordan, chairman of the Jordanian Red Crescent Society Dr. Mohammad Al-Hadeed said the maintenance of the two schools could not have come at a more opportune time as they were lacking in a number of amenities including usable rest rooms.
He applauded Kuwait for its humanitarian support of Syrian refugees from the very first spark of the Syrian crisis. (end) hmf.ajs
