RIYADH, May 5 (KUNA) -- Yemen's Houhti militia on Tuesday shelled the border area in Saudi Arabia's southern region of Najran with mortar shells, Spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition Brig. Gen. Ahmad Asiri said.
Announcing the end of the Saudi-led Operation Decisive Strom, or a humanitarian truce, in Yemen does not mean the coalition forces are not alert, he noted, vowing "proper retaliation for such acts of aggression." The aggression on the Kingdom's borders is part of the Houthis' absurd and chaotic acts, as some of their elements infiltrate to the Saudi side and shoot randomly, he said in a televised statement.
Asiri vowed that the coalition would take the necessary measures so as not to allow the insurgents to exploit the humanitarian pause to launch hostilities. He affirmed in the meantime keenness on carrying on with relief efforts to help the Yemeni people.
Riyadh announced on 21 April the end of the month-long Decisive Storm and the start of Operation Restoration of Hope, in line with the latest UN Security Council resolution on Yemen.
Through the new operation, the coalition will repel any military moves by the Houthis, it then said in a statement. In addition, it will not allow arms to be delivered to the Houthis or the ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh, by air or sea. (end) ad.msa
