Tsunami warnings issued after destructive earthquake in Papa New Guinea

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (KUNA) -- The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) warned of high tsunami waves to take place following a destructive earthquake measuring 7.4 degrees on the Richter scale, opposite of Papa New Guinea shores.
PTWC warned on its website on Tuesday against possible severe high tsunami waves that might hit the shores located within 300 kilometers around the earthquake's epicenter.
The American Geophysical Union stated that the earthquake's center is located 680 kilometers northeast of Port Moresby, capital of Papa New Guinea.
Australian Geological Survey Organization (AGSO) announced the depth of the earthquake to be at 98 kilometers.
No reports of casualties or damage were reported, it added.
The earthquake's tsunami waves are also anticipated to hit he islands of Solomon, Vanuatu, Indonesia, Fiji Islands, Philippines and the surrounding countries, while its strength has not been measured yet. (end) aab.lb
