Saudi Arabia plans unified ctr for humanitarian action in Yemen

RIYADH, May 4 (KUNA) -- Seeking to beef up humanitarian aid to Yemeni people, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir announced Monday plans to set up a unified center for coordination of humanitarian action and to exclude certain areas inside Yemen from air raids to host humanitarian aid.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Jubeir said that his country will start consultations with other members of the coalition leading the campaign to restore legitimacy in Yemen to select a number of areas inside Yemen to deliver humanitarian aid.
All air operations would be halted at specific times in these areas to allow the delivery of this aid in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2216, he stated.
He warned Houthi militias and their allies against any attempt to exploit the cessation of air raids to obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid or take advantage to do achieve their goals.
The Kingdom will respond to any violation by resuming the air strikes against any hostile move to impede humanitarian action, he affirmed.
Al-Jubeir also unveiled that the Saudi Kingdom is planning to set up, on its territories, a unified center to coordinate humanitarian efforts among the United Nations, relevant international organizations and countries seeking to offer relief and humanitarian aid to Yemen.
The center would be assigned the task of delivering the USD 274 million-worth aid pledged by the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Yemeni people, he said. (end) od.ibi
