KUWAIT, May 3 (KUNA) -- Director of Foreign Ministry's follow-up and coordination dept. Ambassador Nasser Al-Sabeeh said Sunday ministry was in constant contact with US competent authorities for release Kuwaiti citizen Fayez Al-Kandari from the detention facility in Guantanamo bay, Cuba.
"We expect things to go smoothly without any problems as per the US-Kuwaiti plan in this regard," he told reporters on the sidelines of a reception held by the Polish embassy to mark the national day of Poland.
On the visit to Kuwait by the UN Special Representative to Iraq Yan Kobish last month, Ambassador Al-Sabeeh said the newly-appointed UN official saw it important to make Kuwait his first destination after taking up the post to get acquainted with the Kuwaiti officials.
During his stay in Kuwait, Kobish discussed a number of issues of common concern for Kuwait and Iraq, he said, noting that the officials of the Foreign Ministry expressed desire to cooperate with him and make his mission in Iraq easy in collaboration with the Iraqi authorities.
Ambassador Al-Sabeeh lauded the friendly ties between Kuwait and Poland that kept growing since the establishment of the diplomatic ties in 1965 based on mutual respect and identical views. (end) hrz.gb
