Kuwait to honor oil, education sectors' martyrs with new memorial

KUWAIT, May 3 (KUNA) -- The Martyr's Bureau is set to build a memorial for martyrs who worked in the oil and education fields, to honor their brave efforts in defending Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion, launched on the country in 1990 and followed with its occupation for seven months.
The memorial, to be built in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), will be another prominent monument in the country, showcasing the Kuwaiti society's sense of unity and patriotism, said Ahmad Al-Awadhi, the director of the bureau's commemoration department, in press statement on Sunday.
"The martyrs' statue will symbolize national unity and the Kuwaitis' attachment to their land and loyalty to their leadership and legitimacy," Al-Awadhi said, "it will be a new key landmark, an icon of national values and patriotism in our dear homeland."
