KUWAIT, April 30 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) is exerting outstanding efforts in helping vulnerable people, and Kuwait is highly appreciated for its leading position in the humanitarian domain, Nepal Ambassador to Kuwait Yagya Bahadur Hamal said.
Following his meeting with KRCS Chairman Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, Hamal said in a press statement that the society has been assisting needy people and people affected by natural disasters.
He underlined the key role of the society at regional and international levels in relief and delivery humanitarian aid to needy and affected people.
He added that his talks with Al-Sayer were productive and fruitful for helping Nepal after a 7.9 magnitude quake hit the country and claimed thousands of lives.
The ambassador expressed his gratitude for Kuwait's donation to buy medications, medical supplies and food, noting that Nepalese authorities are ready for helping the Kuwaiti delegation that will provide support for Nepalese people.
He said that Kuwait and his country have solid relations, adding the two governments are seeking to develop political and economic ties.
On his part, Al-Sayer said that the size of the disaster in Nepal is huge and requires cooperation among governments to provide support for affected people.
He indicated that the society provides all kinds of aid to countries across the globe under the directions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Kuwait offers aid out of its responsibility and its belief in the importance to rapidly face disasters, Al-Sayer added.
Over the past years, Kuwait has offered financial aid to several countries across the globe regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion or disability, he said.
He expressed his concern over the growing pace of natural disasters that hit several countries in the world and left thousands of people dead and caused huge economic losses to many areas.
A powerful earthquake struck central Nepal on Saturday, damaging buildings in the country's capital, Kathmandu, and sending tremors across northern India, Bangladesh and as far afield as Pakistan. (end) akh.hm
