Security plan kicks off in Beirut southern suburbs

BEIRUT, April 28 (KUNA) -- A security plan kicked off on Tuesday morning in Beirut's southern suburbs, where security forces set up checkpoints in the streets.
The joint force, comprised of army soldiers, police and general security officers would be involved in the so-called "security plan" to clamp down on crime in Beirut's southern suburbs, sources told KUNA.
The joint security force has drafted a list of wanted criminals who will be targeted in raids; as charges against the suspects include theft, drug dealing and the possession and use of unlicensed firearms, according to the sources.
The crackdown is part of a broader security plan in various parts of the country, the first legs of which have been in the north Lebanese city of Tripoli and Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley. (end) ayb.ss
