KUWAIT, April 28 (KUNA) -- 1913 -- Seif Palace was lit, using motor oil, for the first time in Kuwait's history.
1950 -- Students sporting event was held for all Kuwaiti schools and attended by Sheikh Abduallah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Sheikh Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and the British commissioner then.
1976 -- The Public Authority for Housing gave out, for the first time, 1, 721 plots in Mishref.
1976 -- Amiri decree number 21/76 approved the inception of the United Arab Shipping Company.
1976 -- Amiri decree number 23/76 was issued on the approval of the establishment of the special fund for the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) signed in Paris on January 28, 1976. Kuwait contributed 72 million dollars of the country's reserve to support OAPEC countries.
1980 -- An assassination attempt on the Iranian Foreign Minister, Sadiq Kuteb Zadah, was carried out during his visit to Kuwait.
1999 -- Al-Arabi Sports Club won the 37th Amir's Soccer Cup against Al-Sahil Sports Club.
2002 -- UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) awarded, for the first time, an Arab figure. The award was presented to the chairman of the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society, Barjas Hmoud Al-Barjas, in appreciation of the society's international efforts.
2002 -- Amiri decree number 38/2002 was issued to ban unlicensed medication and herbal products. All pills and creams should be licensed by the ministry of health before they are offered to the public, as of issue of decree.
2002 -- Amiri decree number 39/2002 was issued for the protection of real-estate rights in the country, stipulating that all plots not within the residential areas would be state property, and all real estate with no owner would be annexed to state property.
2002 -- The Kuwaiti fencing team for the disabled won second place in the world tournament held in Budapest, bringing home four silver medals and three bronze.
2002 -- A heat wave hit the state with the highest temperatures recorded in April, reaching 46 degrees Celsius, the highest in 45 years, due to southwestern winds.
2005 -- Kuwait was nominated member in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Committee, offshoot of the UN Social and Economic Council, as representative of Asia, and membership expires in 2009. (end) gta
