Kuwait to send relief aid to earthquake-stricken Nepal

KUWAIT, April 27 (KUNA) -- The cabinet on Monday decided to send urgent relief aid, foodstuff, medications and shelter materials, to Nepal following Saturday's 8-magnitude quake that hit the Southern Asian country, claiming thousands of lives.
During the weekly routine meeting at Seif Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet offered condolences to the Republic, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said.
The ministers asked the Foreign Ministry, in coordination with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), to work with the international organizations to help alleviate the sufferings of the afflicted people in Nepal and the neighboring countries.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday sent a cable to Nepalese president Ram Baran Yadav, expressing his sorrow over the casualties that resulted from the devastating earthquake. He wished the country can overcome effects of this natural disaster.
His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables.
After the major quake, as many as 26 aftershocks followed, the highest being a 6.7-magnitude quake yesterday noon. Latest governmental update revealed that the death toll has gone above 3,500. (end) msa
