KUWAIT, April 25 (KUNA) -- Commitment to Yemen's legitimacy, represented by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, the Gulf Initiative, National Dialogue and militias' disarmament mark a springboard for Yemen to restore security and safety, a senior Kuwaiti and Arab MP said on Saturday.
"In my capacity as a representative of the Arab Parliament and Kuwait National Assembly, I reaffirm full recognition of, and support for, Yemen's real legitimacy represented by its legitimate president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi as this will lead to Yemen's stability," Deputy Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly Mubarak Al-Khurainej addressed an Arab Parliament session held in Djibouti.
Al-Khurainej, who is also an Arab Parliament member, reiterated a recent Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) decision to end the "Operation Decisive Storm", condemning Houthi militias' attacks on peaceful Yemeni people.
The fact that the Saudi-led operation in Yemen was fully backed by Arab countries reflected Arab solidarity and integration, he added.
Al-Khurainej stressed the necessity of preventing foreign interference in Yemen's internal affairs, warning that Houthi militias pose a direct threat to Yemen and its people, not to mention the security and stability of neighboring countries.
He also boasted that thanks to Gulf diplomacy the UN Security Council (UNSC) had adopted a recent Arab draft resolution which supported Yemen's constitutional legitimacy and demanded Houthi militias to disarm.
"This is another type of victory at the international level which reflects the commitment of the Gulf and Arab countries to the significance of international legitimacy represented by the UN," he said.
Regretting ongoing chaos in several Arab countries, Al-Khurainej said: "What is happening now in Yemen is another wound in the body of the Arab nation." The Saudi-led coalition had ended the "Operation Decisive Storm" against Houthi militias in Yemen and launched the "Operation Restoration of Hope".
The coalition said the new operation mainly aims at resuming the political process as soon as possible according to the UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism, and the outcomes of the national dialogue. It also aims to confront military movements and operations by Houthi militias and their allies, preventing them from using weapons looted from army camps or smuggled from abroad.
The Operation Decisive Storm was launched on March 26 at the behest of President Hadi with the major objective of protecting the Yemeni people and restoring the legitimate leadership in the country.
Meanwhile, three committees of the Arab Parliament have discussed several key issues on the sidelines of the Third Session of the First Legislative Term of the Arab Parliament held in Djibouti.
The Palestinian issue, Arab security, the three Iranian-occupied islands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Syrian Golan Heights, Yemen, childhood and maternity, among others, were discussed during the meetings.
Apart from Al-Khurainej, Kuwaiti MPs Mohammad Al-Jabri, who is Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament, and Mohammed Al-Huwailah, who is a member of the Arab Parliament.
The Djibouti session focuses on a host of political, economic, and social issues and the role of the Arab Parliament in enforcing relevant Arab pieces of legislation. (end) tma.mt
