Opposition takes over key town in fierce fighting

AMMAN, April 25 (KUNA) -- Syrian opposition forces have overrun the key northern town of Jiser Al-Shogour following fierce fighting with the regime troops, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
It said in a statement on Saturday that the regime troops in the town, situated close to the northeastern borders with Lebanon, fled to Jorin area northwestern Hama.
Regime aircraft bombed the attacking opposition forces in a bid to foil their assault, it said, adding the fighting resulted in heavy casualties.
The town is considered strategic due to its location on an intersection of vital logistical routes on the Syrian theater of military operations. (end) tk.rk
