KUWAIT, April 25 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said the Kuwaiti mission to the Expo Milano 2015 will highlight the country's civilizational and humanitarian achievements.
"Kuwait's participation in the event comes at the behest of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and in response to an invitation from Italian President," the minister told KUNA on Saturday.
The global event, themed "Feeding the Planet - Energy for Life," will last from May 1 to October 31, with 145 countries and representatives of dozens of multi-national organizations taking part.
"It is expected to attract up to 20 million visitors," Sheikh Salman said, noting that this huge attendance provides "a rare opportunity for delivering Kuwait's humanitarian and civilizational message." The minister expressed gratitude to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah for his patronage of Kuwait mission to the exhibition.
"The higher constituent committee, set up by the Ministry of Information in December, 2012, and backed by the cabinet, made remarkable efforts over the last three years in preparing for the Kuwaiti participation," he went on.
Sheikh Salman lauded the efforts made by the Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary and high commissioner to expo Faisal Al-Mutlaqqem in arranging the interagency co-operation for bringing to the limelight Kuwait's bright portrait during the upcoming event.
"Kuwait's civilized role in backing up the relief efforts and the quest for sustainable development on the regional and international levels won praise worldwide as evidenced by the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir as Humanitarian Leader and of Kuwait as Center of Humanitarian Action," he added.
Sheikh Salman noted that the delegation of Kuwait National Council for Culture, Art and Letters (NCCAL) aims to provide visitors of the country's pavilion with "a synopsis our cultural heritage and notable works of art." He called on the private sector companies and non-profit societies to take part in the pavilion, and invited the Kuwaitis and Arab tourists in Europe to visit the pavilion. (end) mdm.gb
