EU govt deficit down, debt up

BRUSSELS, April 21 (KUNA) -- The government deficit of both the euro area and the EU decreased in 2014 compared with 2013, while the government debt rose in both zones.
In the euro area the government deficit to GDP ratio decreased from 2.9 percent in 2013 to 2.4 percent in 2014, and in the EU from 3.2 percent to 2.9 percent, according to figures released Tuesday by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office.
In the euro area, the government debt to GDP ratio increased from 90.9 percent at the end of 2013 to 91.9 percent at the end of 2014, and in the EU from 85.5 percent to 86.8 percent. (end) nk.mt
