Egypt court sentences ousted pres. Morsi to 20 years in prison

CAIRO, April 21 (KUNA) -- A Cairo court sentenced on Tuesday ousted president Mohammad Morsi and other defendants to 20 years in prison on charges of inciting murder of opposition protesters outside the Presidential Palace of Al-Ittihadiya in 2012.
The violence erupted outside the palace led to the deaths of 10 people and the injuries of hundreds.
Morsi is facing some other charges, including escaping from prison and spying for foreign powers, some of which also carry a maximum sentence of death.
He was deposed by the army in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule.
He had won the country's first free democratic polls since former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled in 2011. (end) rgh.hm
