Kuwait chosen to chair ALO

KUWAIT, April 20 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Kuwait Workers Union Fayez Al-Mutairi has been elected uncontested as the new Director General of the Arab Labor Organization.
Al-Mutairi was elected for a four-year mandate during the organization's 42nd session, currently hosted by Kuwait.

Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Sabeeh Al-Sabeeh welcomed the choice of the Kuwait Trade Union Federation (KTUF) Chairman Fayez Al-Mutairi as the new Director General of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO).
Al-Mutairi, who won the post by acclamation, would assume his post as of 1 May, Al-Sabeeh told reporters on the sidelines of the second day of the 42nd Arab Labor Conference that started here on Sunday.
She hoped the new Director would adopt all the issues relevant to work and labor in the Arab countries, and work harder to boost Kuwait's status.
For his part, Al-Mutairi expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for patronizing the conference, held on the ALO's 50th anniversary.
There were seven candidates for the post, but they all withdrew in appreciation of Kuwait's role in support of the Arab causes, Al-Mutairi said. Thus, he was elected unrivalled for the four-year mandate.
The conference discussed a host of reports today and will resume morning and evening sessions till 25 April. On Tuesday, participants will inaugurate the ALO new Director General.(end) ha.tab.msa
