Iraqi army liberates Baiji Refinery from ISIL militants

BAGHDAD, April 18 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi army announced Saturday the liberation of Baiji Refinery in Salahuddine Province after defeating the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants who were controlling parts of it over the past days.
The security forces of the refinery backed by huge reinforcements have managed to crash ISIL militants and force them out of the important oil facility, a source at Salahuddine Security Operations told KUNA.
The source pointed out that over 150 ISIL militants were killed in the battle to control the refinery.
Bodies of dozens of ISIL militants are littered in the battle field surrounding the refinery, the source said.
The source, moreover, noted that the Iraqi army's bomb disposal units have also defused scores of roadside bombs planted by ISIL militants inside the refinery in the past day. (end) ahh.ibi
