BRUSSELS, April 18 (KUNA) -- The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague has agreed to appoint some reputable Kuwaiti legal experts to represent their country as members in the organization's international committee, PCA Administrative Council Observer, Kuwaiti Tareq Al-Shumaimry, said on Saturday.
The leading legal figures will serve for a six-year term in the PCA, the oldest UN judicial body, Al-Shumaimry told KUNA.
In 2003, Kuwait joined the PCA, an intergovernmental organization with 117 member states, established in 1899 to facilitate arbitration and other forms of dispute resolution between states.
It has developed into a modern, multi-faceted arbitral institution that is now perfectly situated at the juncture between public and private international law to meet the rapidly evolving dispute resolution needs of the international community.
Today the PCA provides services for the resolution of disputes involving various combinations of states, state entities, intergovernmental organizations, and private parties.
Among the leading experts to join the PCA committee, Minister of Justice and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sanea, a prominent Kuwaiti legal and political figure and a lawyer with a international reputation.
Al-Sanea was on a visit to the PCA headquarters in the Palace of Peace when Secretary-General Hugo H. Siblesz asked him to join the Court, Al-Shumaimry noted.
Other experts to join include the Ministry of Justice Assistant Undersecretary for Legal and International Affairs Zakaria Abdulla Al-Ansari, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Mansour Faraj Al-Saeed and Professor of Public Law at Kuwait University Khalifah Thamer Al Hamidah, also a member of the National Assembly Constitutional Experts Committee.
