US condemns Irbil's attack outside consultate

WASHINGTON, April 18 (KUNA) -- The United States condemned the attack in the Iraqi city Irbil on Friday in which a vehicle-born improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated outside the US Consulate and took a number of innocent lives.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those who were injured and killed," said State Department Acting Spokesperson Marie Harf in a statement.
She indicated that all Chief of Mission personnel have been accounted for without reports of injuries.
"We appreciate the rapid response of the Kurdistan Regional Government authorities to this matter and we will work with them to investigate the incident to determine the facts behind the explosion," she acknowledged.
The US also extended condolences to those killed in the attacks Friday in Baghdad.
"The United States will continue to stand with the people of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and all Iraqis as we work together in confronting these terrorist acts and towards our shared goal of degrading and defeating ISIL," the statement affirmed. (end) ak.gta
