KUWAIT, April 16 (KUNA) -- Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah has voiced satisfaction at the large number of participants in Kuwait Photography Contest, held for the second consecutive year.
The contest is the largest of its kind at the Arab level, in terms of the number of contestants, the highly-qualified judges and the offered prizes, valued at KD 65,000, Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah told KUNA, during a ceremony held late on Wednesday for distribution of the awards to the winners.
He also expressed pleasure at participation of a large number of GCC photographers, noting that the contestants displayed up to 12,000 pictures. "It's our duty to offer support to such contests to encourage the youth of Kuwait and the GCC countries," he said.
Chefiq Al-Sayed Omar, the Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Projects at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, told KUNA that State sponsorship of such activities is part of the approach to encourage talented youth and provide them with a space to manifest their skills and creations.
Photography has become one of the top favored hobbies among the Kuwaiti youngsters.
The contest, initially, saw participation of 1,000 photographers who presented 5,000 pictures. Later the number rose to 2,000 with 12,000 pieces. Up to 100 photos were selected for display and 40 awards were allotted for the best shooters.
The winning photos covered various subjects, namely State of Kuwait, ordinary life, Islamic art, sports, wildlife, birds, natural panorama and lighting art.
