Al-Ghanim, World Bank chief discuss int'l rating of Kuwait

WASHINGTON, April 13 (KUNA) -- National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Gahnim and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim discussed on Monday the rating by international organizations of Kuwait concerning economic reforms and combating corruption.
During the meeting, Al-Ghanim stressed that Kuwait is a leading country in the region in terms of combating corruption, noting that there are effective control bodies in this regard.
He said media outlets have a big space of freedom and thus successful in shedding light on any defects in the country.
Al-Ghanim revealed that some international organizations received inaccurate information about Kuwait's financial and economic situations.
For his part, Kim lauded Kuwait's economic reforms and the efforts of the National Assembly seeking to enact legislations in this regard, promising to convey the real image of Kuwait's effective control bodies and current legislations.
The National Assembly is seeking to enact a number of laws and regulations aiming at achieving further financial reforms and fighting corruption.
Today's meeting was held on sidelines of the Global Parliamentary Conference, hosted by the Global Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), to show Kuwait's efforts in economic reforms.
The event kicked off Sunday with the participation of over 200 lawmakers from over 100 countries.
A Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation, headed by Al-Ghanim, includes MPs Yusuf Al-Zalzalah and Khalil Abdullah. The delegation is taking part in the two-day event. (end) yt.hm
