WASHINGTON, April 12 (KUNA) -- The Global Parliamentary Conference, hosted by the Global Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), kicked off Sunday with the participation of over 200 lawmakers from over 100 countries.
Kuwait is represented in two-day meeting with a senior delegation headed by the National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the conferees reviewed the financial and administrative reports on the previous session and the election of new members to the Global Parliamentary Network.
The role of legislatures in achieving sustainable development is featuring high on the conference's agenda.
The event presents a unique opportunity to build on the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), while also addressing the dimensions that lag behind.
The conferees, also include leaders from civil society and partner organizations, and top officials from a number of International Financial Institutions including the World Bank, IMF and regional development banks, will tackle the remaining tasks and future challenges facing international development.
They will also discuss the role of MPs in boosting shared prosperity and eradicating poverty, and macroeconomic stability, and promoting transparency, good governance and gender equality.
Al-Ghanim, accompanied by MPs Yusuf Al-Zalzalah and Khalil Abdullah, is scheduled to meet with heads of parliaments as well senior officials from the World Bank and IMF. (end) yt.ibi
