DOHA, April 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwait won second place in group competition and third place in single in the 10-kilometer open water swimming competition of the 2nd GCC Beach Games, currently held in the Qatari capital.
In the group competition, the Kuwaiti team which consists of Yusuf Al-Askari, Ali Ashkanani, and Mohammad Al-Kanderi, obatined the second place and silver medal in 6:15 hours, following Oman with first place in 5:59 hours, and UAE in third place with 6:39 hours.
In the single competition, Al-Askari won third place and the bronze medal in the ten-kilometer open water competition in 2:04 hours, while Omani swimmer Mohammad Al-Habsi won the first place in 1:59 hour, and his teammate Musalam Al-Khadhori won the second place in only seconds as the difference in time between them.
Kuwait staff administrator Ayman Abbul told KUNA that the players performed strong during competition and throughout the day in such high spirit which is why they clinched a number of medals.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti football team won the third place and the bronze medal amid participation in the 2nd GCC Beach Games.
The Kuwaiti team defeated the Qatari team 6-3 in a strong and open match with strikes and counterstrikes. (end) nnd.mb
