MANAMA, April 7 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Khalifa said Tuesday many vital facilities in the Kingdom have been funded by Kuwait, which contributed to the development of the Arabian Gulf island.
He made the remarks in Manama after Bahraini Finance Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Khalifa signed an agreement with Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), in Kuwait, to develop road network in northern Bahrain.
The USD 196 million agreement reflected the spirit of cooperation among the GCC countries, he added, and thanked Kuwait for its contribution to vital projects in Bahrain.
Sheikh Khaled said Bahrain highly appreciated the commitment of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), each to contribute USD 2.5 billion, for 10 years, for the financing of development projects in the Kingdom.
These projects, said Sheikh Khaled, would have fruitful results in the next few years. One of these ventures, he added, was the construction of more than 9,000 housing units in different parts of Bahrain with a value exceeding USD two billion.
More than USD three billion would be allocated to construction of projects in the sectors of electricity, water, transport, education, health and public works, he said. (end) mge.bs
