Afghanistan announces support for Saudi Arabia on Yemen

ISLAMABAD, April 2 (KUNA) -- The Government of Afghanistan announced support for the Saudi-led coalition to protect legitimacy and maitain security and stability in Yemen, said an official statement.
A statement by the Presidential Palace said: "The government and people of Afghanistan have deep rooted historic and religion relations with Saudi Arabia and therefore stands alongside the people and the government of the kingdom to defend it in case of emergence of any threats." The stance adopted by the Afghan government has been taken in the light of a joint meeting of national Security Council, national figures and religious scholars wherein the situation of the region with particular reference to Yemen were discussed.
The Afghan government further stated that Afghanistan supports the legitimate government in Yemen and stresses backing for a political solution to the crisis there. It called upon Islamic countries to take necessary steps in this regard in coordination with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). (end) sbk.mt
