Libya's El-Ghowail takes over as premier

TRIPOLI, April 1 (KUNA) -- Former first deputy prime minister of Libya's National Salvation Government Khalifa Al-Ghowail announced late Wednesday he accepted to serve as prime minister.
The outgoing General National Congress (GNC) decided Tuesday to sack Al-Hasi and tasked Al-Gowail with replacing him.
Speaking to KUNA, the newly-appointed Prime Minister said his government will work on caretaker basis and cooperate with the parliament for serving the citizens.
He added that he is authorized to lead the government for one month pending a new decision by the GNC to replace him or renew his mandate.
Al-Hasi, who served for seven months, has handed over authority to Al-Gowail at a ceremony here and wished him success in discharging his duties.
Legitimacy in Libya has been hotly disputed by the Tripoli-based self-proclaimed GNC or parliament and the UN-recognized Tobruk-based House of Representatives since August when Fajr Libya (Dawn of Libya) took hold of the capital city. (end) nam.gb
