EU welcomes proposal to hold conf. on Yemen under GCC auspices

BRUSSELS, March 31 (KUNA) -- The EU Tuesday welcomed the fact that Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Yemeni President Mansur Hadi and Yemeni foreign minister Riyadh Yaseen have re confirmed that the door was open for all parties to return to political talks on Yemen.
"We also positively note that the League of Arab State called on Yemeni president Hadi to hold a conference under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council," said an EU spokesperson for foreign affairs in Brussels.
"We hope that such a conference can be organized swiftly, on the basis of broad and inclusive participation without preconditions, with the clear objective to reach a sustainable political compromise, which will necessarily include Security sector reform and disarmament issues," said the spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity.
"Our objective is a rapid and peaceful return to stability in Yemen based on a broad political consensus," added the spokesperson. (end) nk.rk
