Ban Ki-moon arrives in Kuwait for Third aid-pledging conf.

KUWAIT, March 30 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Kuwait on Monday to participate in the Third International Pledging Humanitarian Conference, due tomorrow.
Ban was received at the airport by Amiri Diwan Advisor, UN Secretary General envoy for Humanitarian Affairs and president of the International Islamic Charitable Organizations (IICO), Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq.
Earlier today, 30 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have pledged USD 506 million to provide humanitarian aid for the Syrian people, inside the country and in neighboring nations, exceeding pledges made in their meeting in Kuwait last year.
Ban was in Baghdad earlier in the day, where he welcomed the Iraqi forces' progress in the face of ISIL militants in the northern city of Tikrit. (end) kt.bs
