Chinese officials emphasize need for close ties with Kuwait

GUANGZHOU, South China, March 30 (KUNA) -- Chinese officials on Monday stressed the necessity of boosting mutual cooperation and elevating level of bilateral relations with the State of Kuwait.
The officials made the affirmation during a meeting with Abdulwahab Al-Sager, the Kuwaiti General Consul in the city of Guangzhou, located in southern province of Guangdong. The meeting included the head of the local foreign affairs bureau, consular and security officials in the province, along with other local officials and Kuwaiti embassy staff.
The Chinese officials lauded the growing relations between Kuwait and the province, underlining vital role, played by the Kuwaiti consulate -- being the sole Arab consulate in the region.
Figures from the two sides indicated that Guangzhou port "may be the starting point for launching the maritime silk route in the 21st century." This sea route is aspired to cross Kuwaiti harbors and stretches to the Turkish Istanbul port.
Talks between the two sides touched on preparations for the International Canton Exhibition, due in a month. The event, as participants opined, will be an opportunity to promote Kuwaiti companies and commodities. (end) mk.rk
