Vietnamese Pres. lauds IPU's efforts in achieving peace, development

HANOI, March 28 (KUNA) -- Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang hailed efforts exerted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in achieving peace, cooperation, development and gender equality.
Sang made the remark during his inaugural speech at the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly that kicked off in Hanoi on Saturday, with the participation of a Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation.
He pointed, during the speech, to instability, sectarian and religious conflict, and violations of principles of human rights as well as other causes interest the world's countries.
He added that his country always calls for supporting international efforts aiming at spreading the concepts of democracy, freedom and equality.
For his part, Vietnam's National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung expressed his happiness as his country is hosting a large number of MPs from more than 166 countries, indicating that the IPU has become a major international organization in the globe.
He said that the gathering coincides with the 70th anniversary of the UN's founding and the 30th anniversary of women's participation for the first time in the IPU, adding this is a great chance to discuss some significant topics.
The Kuwaiti delegation, led by National Assembly Speaker, Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim, includes MPs Faisal Al Shaya, Dr. Awda Al-Rowaey, Saleh Ashour, Dr. Khalil Abdullah, Saif Al-Azmi and Madi Al-Hajri, and National Assembly Secretary General Allam Al-Kandari. (Pickup previous) mah.hm
