GCC, OIC groups seek coordinated efforts at IPU's Assembly

HANOI, March 28 (KUNA) -- Members of the GCC and OIC groups, attending the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held meetings here on Saturday to coordinate efforts ahead of the assembly.
Deputy Chairman of the Qatari Majlis Al-Shura Issa Al-Kuwari said that the GCC meeting focused on unifying Gulf efforts at the IPU meeting, noting that the situation in the region, namely the Syrian humanitarian crisis, was a main issue on the agenda of the meeting.
On his part, Kuwaiti National Assembly MP Dr. Awda Al-Rowaey told KUNA that the OIC group focused its coordinative meeting on topics such as a specific definition for terrorism and the freedom of speech and belief.
The IPU Assembly attracts 600 lawmakers from 113 countries, with the State of Kuwait participating with a delegation headed by National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim. (end) mah.gta
